Octopus EV tariffs without a driveway
Whether Octopus Go or Intelligent Go can work if you have no driveway or home charger, and what to compare instead.

Short answer
Octopus’s EV tariffs are built around charging at home: Intelligent Go needs a compatible car or charger it can schedule, and Go assumes overnight home charging. Without a home charge point, the cheap overnight rate does little for the car. Compare public charging costs against a standard tariff, or Agile if you can move household use instead.
Why home charging matters for these tariffs
Go and Intelligent Go save money by moving a large, flexible load, the car, into a cheap overnight window. If the car charges on the street or at work, that load is not on your meter, and you are left paying a higher day rate for everything else.
What to compare instead
Without home charging, the household tariff and the public charging cost are separate decisions:
- For the home: Flexible or Fixed if your use is spread out, Agile if you can shift laundry, dishwashing or a hot-water tank.
- For the car: public charging prices are usually several times a home off-peak rate, so where and when you charge matters most.
If a charger becomes possible
If you later get off-street parking or a permitted charging solution, check Intelligent Go compatibility for your exact car or charger first. It is the tariff that gives the biggest saving when the car charges at home.
Questions people ask
Can I join Octopus Go without a home charger?
Go is designed for households that charge an EV at home. Without home charging the tariff’s main benefit is lost, so compare a standard tariff instead.
Can a granny cable work with Intelligent Go?
Intelligent Go controls compatible cars or chargers. Some cars can be scheduled through the car itself, so check your exact model with Octopus.
