About Outgoing Octopus

Outgoing Octopus is the flat-rate version of the export tariff: one rate for every unit of electricity you send to the grid, whatever time of day it leaves the house. It suits an export setup that cannot easily be shifted, solar panels with no battery for instance, which generate when the sun is out rather than when the grid is short. There is nothing to schedule and nothing to watch: the rate is the rate, and what you earn is the rate multiplied by the units you export.

Questions, answered

How does the flat rate compare with the Agile export rate?
The flat rate pays the same amount in every half hour, while the Agile export rate moves with the wholesale market and pays most in the evening peak and least overnight. Which one earns more depends entirely on when your system exports, which is why the two are published as separate products.
Does the Ofgem price cap apply to this tariff?
No. The cap governs what you are charged for the energy you use, and it does not apply to what you are paid for the energy you export. There is no cap figure that an export rate can meaningfully be measured against.
Is there a standing charge on export?
Export accounts generally do not carry one, because a standing charge belongs to the import tariff that supplies the house: export is a payment made to you rather than a bill sent to you. What this particular product publishes is a question for the rates shown on this page, which report what the catalogue holds rather than what this answer assumes.
