Sometimes electricity pays you to use it

When there is more wind and sun on the grid than the country can use, Agile prices go below zero. Use power then and the unit rate is credited to you instead of charged. It is rare, it is measurable, and this is every time it has happened.

How a negative half hour is counted

A half hour counts once nationally if Agile was below zero in any of the 14 regions. It is not counted again for each region that saw it. National totals are therefore neither sums nor averages of the regional ones — they are a different measurement, and comparing them directly will mislead you.

What these figures coverRead more

The record-low search is measured from to . Totals, trends, events and regional comparisons cover the 24 calendar months from to . Where coverage is incomplete a figure reads “at least”, because a gap can only ever make the real total higher.

Why this page can go unavailableRead more

National results use the bounded aggregate maintained alongside the tariff ingest. If that upstream aggregate is temporarily unavailable, this page fails closed rather than reconstructing national results inside the web application — a reconstructed total would be a different measurement wearing the same label.

Why Outgoing Agile has no negative pricesRead more

Every negative rate in the database belongs to Agile import. Outgoing Octopus Agile is half-hourly too and has rate history back to 2018, with no negative row at all — the export price is floored at zero. A plunge page for it would be a claim the data does not support. About Agile Octopus.
