OctoTariffs is an independent tool designed to help you compare and understand Octopus Energy electricity tariffs. Whether you’re on Agile, Go, or considering a switch, we provide the data you need to make informed decisions.

Our Mission

We believe that transparency and easy access to pricing information empowers consumers to reduce their electricity costs while supporting a greener grid. By understanding when electricity is cheapest, you can:

Supported Tariffs

We track a bounded set of public Octopus household import, export, gas and Economy 7 rate families. We are not a whole-of-market comparison service, and specialist add-ons and property-specific products sit outside this rate catalogue. A few of the import tariffs:

Data Source

Every price on this site is read from a Postgres database of Octopus's published tariffs and rates, which a separate process keeps up to date. Pages are rendered from that database and regenerated on a fifteen-minute cycle. We do not modify or alter the pricing data. Prices include VAT and are shown in pence per kilowatt-hour, exactly as published.

Your browser sends the postcode transiently in a POST request body. It never enters this site's browser-visible URL, storage, cache, logs, or response. To use Octopus's authoritative mapping, the site then sends a transient, no-store request to Octopus. That upstream request uses the compact postcode in its URL and is discarded after the lookup finishes. Only the resulting canonical region may be remembered in local storage on this device. See the privacy policy for what happens to a postcode you enter.

If a tomorrow page has no database result, a browser-side fallback request to Octopus for tomorrow's published rates may run. Reviewed private browser helpers support the interactive pages, but this site offers no supported public data API or downloads.

Pages distinguish measured tariff data from estimates, explain important limitations next to calculations, and link to primary sources where a claim depends on external guidance.

Private account tools

The usage, data-gap, and comparison tools mean the browser connects directly to Octopus Energy over HTTPS. This site never receives your API key, account number, MPAN, meter serial numbers, account payload, or consumption payload.

The current browser session is the default lifetime for that connection. You can explicitly choose Remember on this device for a durable browser copy, and Forget account clears both connection stores. No consumption payload is stored.

Tariff comparison requests published replay data separately from this same-origin site, using only region and London date bounds. If the switchable set does not contain the exact current product, the browser obtains that tariff's published rates directly from Octopus without sending credentials with the public-rate request. Baseload and cost figures remain estimates, not bills, quotes, or device measurements, and the pages state the standing-charge, discount, dispatch, export, and billing limits next to the result.

The custom tariff tool stores up to 20 structured definitions only in local storage on this device. Disconnected comparison uses a documented synthetic profile scaled to annual kWh; connected comparison keeps real usage in the browser. Only region and London date bounds request published catalogue and rate facts from this site.

Public rate alerts

Public rate alerts use an email address plus a regional published-rate condition. They require double opt-in, include an unsubscribe link in every alert, and remain separate from the browser-held private account tools. The site still offers no supported public data API or downloads.

Technical Details

This site is built with modern web technologies for optimal performance and SEO:

  • Next.js with server-side rendering for fast initial loads
  • Incremental Static Regeneration: the 280 regional pages are built up front and refreshed in the background, so nobody waits on a database read
  • Charts drawn on the server as plain SVG, so no JavaScript is needed to read a price
  • Private account interaction stays in the browser, so those tools require JavaScript
  • Responsive design for mobile and desktop
  • Accessibility-first approach
