Octopus Fixed Gas monthly rates averaged across the regions of Great BritainOctopus Fixed Gas monthly rates averaged across the regions of Great Britain from Oct 2022 to Sept 2026. Ranges from 7.66p to 8.23p per kWh. Most recent period Sept 2026: 8.01p per kWh, counted from 10 of 30 days. 2 periods are drawn from part of the calendar rather than all of it: Aug 2026 (29 of 31 days), Sept 2026 (10 of 30 days). A month is partly counted where a version went on or came off sale inside it, and the current month is always still in progress.7.66p7.80p7.94p8.09p8.23pOct 2022Oct 23Sept 24Sept 25Sept 20268.01p latest

Points are interactive: hover, focus or select one for exact values. The line is the plain average of the regional monthly means — all 14 regions, in every month — and the shaded band runs from the cheapest of those regions to the dearest in that month. So the band is the spread BETWEEN regions, not the spread within a month — a regional page’s chart shows the latter. Nobody pays the line; it describes the country rather than a bill. 2 periods are drawn from part of the calendar rather than all of it: Aug 2026 (29 of 31 days), Sept 2026 (10 of 30 days). A month is partly counted where a version went on or came off sale inside it, and the current month is always still in progress. They are drawn hollow.

About Octopus Fixed Gas

This page shows the gas rates of Octopus Fixed, a tariff whose unit rate and standing charge are held for the length of the contract instead of being reviewed periodically. Fixing gas means the rate stays where it is whatever happens to the wholesale gas market during the term, which is protection against a rise and equally a barrier to benefiting from a fall. Rates here are pence per kilowatt hour of gas, a different commodity from electricity: the two are quoted in the same units but they are not comparable figures.

Good to know

Questions, answered

What does fixing the gas rate actually protect against?
A change in the price itself. The unit rate and the standing charge stay as they are for the full term regardless of the wholesale market or the level of the price cap. It does not fix your bill, which still depends on how much gas you burn.
Can I compare this with the fixed electricity rate?
No. Both are pence per kilowatt hour, but a kilowatt hour of gas is a different commodity from a kilowatt hour of electricity and the two rates are set from different wholesale markets. Reading one against the other is a category error.
What happens at the end of the term?
A fixed term ends and the account moves on to whatever tariff the supplier rolls it to, usually the standard variable one, unless another is chosen before the end date.
