Short answer
Octopus Energy is a British gas and electricity supplier, now the largest electricity supplier in the UK. It is best known for its wide range of smart tariffs, from half-hourly Agile to EV, heat-pump and solar export tariffs, alongside ordinary standard variable and fixed deals.
The tariff range in brief
Most households fit one of these groups:
- Standard and fixed: Flexible Octopus (variable, price-cap protected) and fixed-term deals.
- Wholesale-linked: Agile (a new price every half hour) and Tracker (a new price every day).
- Electric vehicles: Octopus Go and Intelligent Octopus Go, with cheap overnight windows.
- Heating: Cosy Octopus for heat pumps and Snug for storage heaters.
- Solar and batteries: Flux, Intelligent Flux and the Outgoing export tariffs.
Prices depend on your region
Every Octopus price varies across the 14 Great Britain electricity regions, because network costs differ. A rate quoted for London will not match one for South Wales. Always compare the rates for your own region.
