How to change tariff as an existing Octopus customer
When and how existing Octopus customers can move tariff, the 45-day rule for fixed deals, and what to check before choosing a smart tariff.

Short answer
You can usually change tariff in your Octopus account or app. On a variable tariff such as Flexible Octopus you can do it at any time. On a fixed tariff, the option appears when you are within 45 days of the end of your contract. Before moving to a smart tariff, check your meter, equipment and today’s regional rates.
Where to do it
Open your account or the app and look for the tariff options. If you cannot see any, you are probably on a fixed deal more than 45 days from its end.
Choosing what to move to
Narrow it down by your home:
- Nothing to move overnight: Flexible or a fix.
- EV: Intelligent Go or Go.
- Heat pump: Cosy.
- Flexible use or a battery: Agile, Tracker or Flux.
Before you click
Compare the full annual cost, check any exit fee on your current deal, and make sure a smart tariff’s meter and equipment conditions are met. Take a reading on the change date if your meter is not smart.
Questions people ask
Can I leave a fixed Octopus tariff early?
You can, but an exit fee may apply. Changing within 45 days of the end avoids the hassle, and the tariff options appear in your account then.
Do existing customers get the same tariffs as new ones?
Usually the same range is open to existing customers who meet the conditions. Check the options in your account.
